A Uttoxeter man who had illicit sex with a 15-year-old girl has been jailed for 32 months by a judge.

Police found the girl at the Balance Street home of Alan Hudson after she had been reported as a runaway, Stafford Crown Court heard.

The girl was belligerent and at first refused to leave Hudson's flat, but was eventually returned home.

Paul Farrow, prosecuting, said the girl had spent 24 hours in Hudson's flat during which they had sexual intercourse on one occasion.

It had started with a group of young people visiting the defendant's home and they were there when he got in from work.

Alcohol was consumed and the girl drank a large bottle of WKD which made her "tipsy".

"He knew how old she was and still had sexual intercourse with her," said Mr Farrow.

25 year-old Hudson admitted a charge of sexual activity with a child. Along with the jail sentence Hudson was also banned from working with children indefinitely, ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for 10 years.

Judge John Maxwell said: "The law is there to protect 15 year olds from their own foolishness – it is simply no defence that she was consenting. You had sexual intercourse using no protection."
