Is The Maltings in terminal decline?

This weeks Advertiser has highlighted the current state of The Maltings shopping centre - and warned that things could get even worse.
-
Sandwich chain Subway are one of the most recent businesses to leave
According to the newspaper - www.uttoxeter-news.co.uk - business owners claim they are being 'driven out' of the precinct, due to the high cost of renting units.
Two businesses left the centre this week, meaning that now almost half of the units are unoccupied.
Both businesses - Subway and Moorland Motorbility - gave their reasons for leaving to the newspaper, citing lack of profit and high cost of rent.
So, if this is the case, what does the future hold for The Maltings? Are things going to get worse before they get better?
Do you shop there? Do you think it is a facility which serves the town well? What changes would you make? Let us know.

The Maltings is dying due to the Landlord Barret, If he wants it to be succesful he should be helping the current tenants.
Now if barrets thinks the rents in the Maltings are not high, why are there many empty shops not occupied.
I was looking to open a shop in Utoxeter (Old sports shop) and was quoted cheaper in Burton and Derby for BIGGER premises... Now would i choose Burton/Derby or Uttoxeter? The business rates even dont help.
I just think that Barret is just greedy rather than trying to help the current tenants and trying to bring new traders. He keeps saying he is in contact with blue chip companies.. that news has been going on for more than 6years! where are they if thats the case? yes i know the economy isnt helping either but rather then everyone taking a small hit and keep trading, he just made it worse by putting the rents up again!
I personally have spoken to a few tenants in the Maltings and 3 have confirmed they are moving over the next 6 month as other premises are cheaper!
