Police issue warning over 'distraction' burglary

Police in Uttoxeter have warned elderly residents to be on their guard after an 84 year-old man had his house burgled on Saturday evening.

The victim answered the door to the offender, who claimed he was there to check the water. The offender then stole cash from the property, on Park Avenue.

Officers are now trying to establish whether the incident was linked to a similar burglary in Tutbury on the same day.

Relatives and friends of the elderly are now being encouraged to warn them against opening the door to such callers.
