The parent company of Northern Foods, who own local giant Fox's Biscuits, has reported healthy first quarter sales figures.

Boperan Holdings, who bought Northern Foods last year, saw like-for-like sales for the 13 weeks prior to October 29 rise 10% on the same period a year before.

Chief Executive Ranjit Singh said that the integration of Northern Foods was going to plan, and believes that the second quarter figures are also likely to be strong.

"The first quarter of our new financial year has seen a solid start, despite the continued challenging environment. The second quarter is progressing in line with our plan and we expect our Christmas performance will have been solid," he said.

The company currently employ over 800 people at Uttoxeter's Fox's Biscuits factory.
